Therapy intensives are ideal for those who want to feel better, yesterday.

think of it this way —

A weekly therapy session entails:

  • 10-15 minutes of checking in from the last session (establishing agenda for the day).

  • 20-30 minutes of processing grief/trauma processing

  • 10 minutes of wrapping up the session & scheduling the next session.

In reality, this means that you dedicated a month addressing a particular stressor, with approximately $800 spent on four weekly therapy sessions.

However, life often brings new challenges between sessions, altering your priorities and the focus of each session.

Nonetheless, you might find yourself in weekly therapy for several months, costing significantly more ($800 multiplied by the number of months), without fully resolving your current stressor.

VS.

An intensive therapy session entails:

  • 10-15 minutes of checking in to establish session goals

  • 160-210 minutes of grief/trauma processing

  • 10 minutes closing the session

This way, you’ll be able to resolve one or multiple stressors within half a day, costing around $2,000-$2,500 (as a couple). 2-3 hours of grief/trauma processing equates to double the amount of talk therapy sessions so you’re doing more work, in less time, needing less therapy overall.

You begin to reconnect with yourself, a lot sooner.

Nonetheless, you will spend less time on symptom management via medications (that weren’t really working anyway, because let’s be honest —if they were you wouldn’t be coming to see me). & you don’t have to keep taking time off of work or paying for childcare to attend your sessions and worrying about therapy as another item on your to-do list that you need to check off!

You can also choose to extend intensive therapy for continuous, long-term support, scheduling sessions in manageable “chunks” as needed

In essence, one weekend is all you need to go through a complete metamorphosis, either solo or as a couple.

Disclaimer:

Before fully committing to the advantages of Intensives, it's important to consider some essential details that might not be immediately apparent...

  • Trauma/grief intensives are NOT a one size fits all. Please contact me to further discuss your goals and needs for considering Intensives.

    • Individuals OR Couples in which one or both partners may be experiencing more complex mental health diagnoses (personality/mood disorders), will not be candidates for Intensives.

    • Individuals OR Couples in which one or both partners have an active addiction will not be candidates for Intensives.

    • For couples who are currently experiencing an ongoing affair - the Intensive session will not be appropriate.

    • If there is active intimate partner violence occurring, the Intensive is also not appropriate. Please visit this site for more information about intimate partner violence.

      • If being in the same space as your partner for a prolonged period of time is too activating/alarming or you haven't been able to be in the same space without being civil in a period of time - please note that this format will not be appropriate or productive for you.

    • Conversely, Intensive are for couples who are very specific and concrete about what they would like to accomplish as a result of these sessions.

      • If you or your partner do not have the same goals in mind for therapy, this won’t be productive. An Intensive isn't the place to decide if you are willing to work on your relationship (that should come before).

If, after reviewing these criteria, you're uncertain whether the Intensives would be appropriate for you/you and your partner, please feel free to reach out to me. I'm available to answer any questions and assess whether this format aligns with your current needs. If it doesn't, I'd be happy to support you in finding alternative resources.

Although Intensive session will be occurring through a HIPAA compliant software, individuals/couple do need to be within the state of California and all ethical and legal guidelines for providing services are under the therapist’s license in the state of California (includes but not limited to HIPAA, confidentiality, reporting abuse, etc).

  • Trauma and grief intensive therapy offers a concentrated and accelerated approach to healing compared to traditional weekly sessions.

It involves spending several hours (5-13) over consecutive days (1-3) at a time, working closely with me to deeply explore the emotions, memories, and coping strategies in a supportive environment, aiming to provide significant progress in understanding and managing trauma or grief.

It's beneficial for those overwhelmed by emotions or seeking faster healing and personalized support tailored to immediate needs and progress.

    • You're seeking profound therapeutic work that can swiftly transform your relationships (solo or with your partner).

    • You already go to weekly therapy and you feel stuck or on the verge of a break through. You may want to do an Intensive as a supplement to your weekly therapy to better support your personal and relational goals.

Please note that I am only licensed in the state of California, and require that you reside in California as well.

  • Short answer: It depends.

Many insurance providers, typically PPOs, offer partial reimbursement for psychotherapy services. I am considered an out-of-network provider for insurance purposes.

It's advisable to verify the specifics of your policy in advance, including coverage for out-of-network providers and any limitations on the number of therapy hours reimbursed per day or week.

To obtain detailed information about your plan, I recommend contacting the customer service number on the back of your insurance card.

Please note, insurance companies require a diagnosis code for treatment purposes, and not all individuals seeking therapy Intensives may meet the criteria for reimbursement.

Upon request, I can provide you with a Superbill detailing all therapy services provided in the program.

If you need further assistance or additional information, I'm here to help streamline this process for you.
